Our clients can choose between light, medium, and deep chemical peels in Lexington, KY. Each has its value for facial rejuvenation, and they also have different downtime requirements.
Light Chemical Peel
This level of treatment improves skin texture and tone and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It provides the most subtle enhancements, which become cumulative with the addition of regular future light chemical peels.
Downtime for a light chemical peel is 5 to 7 days, mostly as social downtime because of the peeling skin. However, true downtime isn’t required at this level.
Medium Chemical Peel
With this depth of peel, your treatment area(s) will be noticeably smoother. It removes the damaged outer layers and some deeper layers. This can lessen scarring—especially acne scarring. It also improves skin tone and the appearance of sun damage and hyperpigmentation.
Downtime can last from 7 to 14 days. This deeper peel incurs more scaling, plus skin may appear more swollen and irritated. You may wish to take time off from work or work remotely. Your provider may recommend more than 1 day’s time between the treatment and when you can apply makeup again.
Deep Chemical Peel
This depth of chemical peel is a more intensive and invasive cosmetic procedure, and it should only be done by qualified medical spa providers. Deep chemical peels in Lexington, KY, are used to address significant skin concerns including deeper wrinkles, more severe sun damage, extensive scarring, or even precancerous growths.
The process for a deep chemical peel may include pre-treatment preparations for up to 8 weeks prior to the peel. This can include using retinoid acid creams or gels, adjusting your intake of certain medicines and supplements, and/or other preparations depending on your unique needs.
We’ll begin your deep chemical peel by cleansing your skin. Next, you’ll be given a sedative, and a topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area to maximize your comfort. We’ll then brush on the chemical peel solution and let it do its job for a closely monitored, specific amount of time.
When ready, the peeling agent is neutralized with purified water, and a thick layer of ointment is applied to your skin to protect it and keep it hydrated. To keep the ointment in place, your Lexington Prime provider may wrap the treatment area in medicate gauze.
The downtime for a deep chemical peel is more extensive than the other peel depths. You’ll need 14 to 21 days to heal. Expect the area to remain bandaged for some time. You’ll need to soak the area 4 to 6 times a day and re-apply ointment after the soak. Medicine will be prescribed to help with the pain and to help with the significant swelling and rawness. You can expect to take a minimum of 10 days off from work.
Around 14 days after the treatment you may be able to wear makeup. Eventually, the redness fades to pink, which can last several months. Your provider will check in on you regularly to track your healing progress and to answer any questions or concerns.
Deep chemical peels achieve results which, when supported by a healthy lifestyle and proper protective measures, can last for up to 10 years!
