Clinical testing has shown that SkinPen Microneedling is effective for clients with all Fitzpatrick skin phototypes, I through VI. The Fitzpatrick skin phototype scale system categorizes skin tones based on that particular tone’s response to UV light and sunburn susceptibility.
Fitzpatrick Skin Types I through VI include:
- Type I (Very Light): Always burns, never tans. Usually has pale or fair skin, blue or green eyes, and red or blonde hair.
- Type II (Light): Burns easily, tans minimally. Typically has fair skin, blue or green eyes, and blonde or light brown hair.
- Type III (Light to Medium): Burns moderately, tans gradually. Often has fair to beige skin, hazel or brown eyes, and dark blonde to light brown hair.
- Type IV (Medium): Burns minimally, tans well. Typically has light to moderate brown skin, brown eyes, and dark brown hair.
- Type V (Medium to Dark): Rarely burns, tans easily. Often has dark brown skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair.
- Type VI (Dark): Almost never burns, tans easily. Commonly has very dark brown to black skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair.
